13 Reasons Why: Season 5 – What You Should Know

13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why is one of the more bizarre shows on Netflix, tackling themes only a few would dare explore. The topics it depicts are controversial, to say the least, but it made the series unique and popular enough to produce four seasons. The fourth season was deemed the series’ final outing by Netflix, but is there an off-chance they pick it up again for Season 5?

The previous season’s finale had the characters finally bury their past and move on by going to college. Will it stay that way, though? Here’s everything you should know about 13 Reasons Why: Season 5.

When Is 13 Reasons Why: Season 5 Being Released?

Currently, 13 Reasons Why: Season 5 has no release date since the show has officially ended, as previously mentioned. Surprisingly, it wasn’t even Netflix who made the decision but the showrunners themselves.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Brian Yorkey was questioned why was Season 4 the time to end the story, to which he answered: “Somewhere in the midst of making Season 2, when it became clear that we might have the chance to make more seasons of this, I pretty quickly got to a place where it felt like a four-season story. I’m always a little bit suspicious of high school shows that go beyond four seasons because high school is four years long.”

Yorkey was also asked about the possibility of making 13 Reasons Why: The College Year, but he quickly shot down the idea as he wants to leave that up to our imaginations.

Will The Cast Return For 13 Reasons Why: Season 5?

With the show ending in Season 4, the cast won’t return for 13 Reasons Why: Season 5. Many cast members have embraced the series’ conclusion and put the show behind them for good.

Dylan Minnette (who played Clay Jensen) mentioned that he felt like they gave a deserved send-off to the characters and that it was emotional for him to say goodbye. When asked about Clay Jensen returning for a fifth season or a spin-off, Minnette laughed it off and said: “Who knows? I don’t know.”

Alisha Boe (Jessica Davis) and Ross Butler (Zach Dempsey) were also thankful for the experiences and bonds they’ve created, but they’re also looking forward to the start of their new futures.

What Could 13 Reasons Why: Season 5 Be About?

Even if it were to be made, no one knows what 13 Reasons Why: Season 5 will be about. As many people know, 13 Reasons Why is an adaptation of the novel with the same written by Jay Asher. The show deviated from its source material since Season 2, so it’ll be up to its writers to decide what Season 5’s plot will be.

However, that didn’t stop Dylan Minnette from thinking of potential storylines for Season 5. Amidst the pandemic in 2020, Variety interviewed and asked the star about a hypothetical Season 5 plot, where Minnette said that it’ll feature Clay quarantining in Evergreen County with his parents and the ghosts of characters who passed away, such as Justin, Hannah, Bryce, and Monty. “It’s all set in one room. Damn, actually, we should have done this,” the actor joked.
