10 Cloverfield Lane: The Cloverfield Sequel Nobody Was Expecting

10 Cloverfield Lane

When even your parents seem to know what you’re up to online these days, it’s really hard to keep any secrets. Sure, you can make your accounts private and not turn on your GPS settings on your phone (like you would be crazy enough to do so), but the truth will come out eventually.

You can only guess the lengths JJ Abrams had to go to to ensure that the sequel to Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane, remained firmly under wraps.

Talk of a sequel to 2008’s polarising found-footage monster flick Cloverfield has been around since the end credits first rolled as it left more questions unanswered than a game of Trivial Pursuit between toddlers. Well, after using the smoke and mirrors effect to call the film The Cellar and later Valencia, Bad Robot productions have revealed that it was a sequel to Cloverfield all along.

Better yet, the film’s already made. It will be released on March 11th 2016.

Speaking to Collider, a Paramount rep said:

“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

Starring Mary Elisabeth Winstead, John Goodman, and John Gallagher Jr., 10 Cloverfield Lane will be set in the same universe as Clovefield, presumably during the aftermath of the monster’s rampage across New York, or perhaps, the world. Directing duties go to debutant Dan Trachtenberg with Mysterio himself, JJ Abrams, takes the reins for the production side of things.
