Between the recent release of the latest Five Nights At Freddy’s, and the long wait for Friday the 13th: The Game, the variety of scary games around halloween are a little lacking.

But thankfully Funcom (Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Age of Conan, The Secret World) are about to release something refreshing on Steam on October 25th – Hide and Shriek.

A different animal to last year’s The Park, Hide and Shriek is a multiplayer 1 vs 1 psychological horror game. Players are tasked within 10 minutes to achieve the highest score possible between them. Points are achieved by using traps, magic spells and jump scares against your opponent, which is tricky as both of you are invisible, making it a scary yet tactical game. You have to continually keep an eye on your surrounding environment, looking for any moving doors being opened or any objects shuffling unexpectedly before quickly preparing to frighten the other player, while making sure not to trigger any traps if there are any.

Jumps scares also include the use of scary masks, some of which are customisable with horrific effects. But as its also US presidential season, the option of wearing Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton masks are also available for terrifying your victims. The vision of a horrendously orange smiling face appearing out of nowhere would definitely frighten the life out of me!

The game will include an assortment of over 30 spells to find within the game, as well as a Leaderboard for bragging rights over who is the scariest player of the game. Currently it’s £4.79/$4.79 on Steam to pre-order, but prices will increase to £5.99/$6 at launch. All in all, a good price for an intriguing game.
