Single of the Week: Coldcut – Only Heaven feat. Roots Manuva

Coldcut have been off the grid for a while now, quietly tinkering away on a new album, which will be their first full LP since Sound Mirrors dropped in 2006. Now, we’ve got our first taste of what it’s going to be like and I must say… Damn. A measured, bubbling trip-hop beat with echoes of Portishead, some lyrical craftsmanship from the one and only Roots Manuva and a gorgeous choral vocal. It’s a welcome return to form from the duo, who have been in the game for 29 years now.

No word yet on a release date for the album, but that ‘2016’ promise gap is closing, and the fact that they’re dropping material suggests that it won’t be too long.
