SINGLE REVIEW: This Wild Life – ‘Pull Me Out’

This Wild Life Pull Me Out video

It’s been over two years since This Wild Life released their debut album Clouded. Fans will be glad to know there’s another on the way, and a new song out already. Upcoming Low Tides is set for release on September 9th, but for now, let ‘Pull Me Out’ whet your appetite.

Moody lighting, ghostly layered vocals and fingerstyle guitar adding detail to the striking electric notes. The opening minute of ‘Pull Me Out’ would seem to be setting up the band to take their music in a different direction. There’s a new gravity to the music, a deeper pull on the instrumental. The National-esque longing weighs into vocals now more heavy with emotion. But despite all these adjustments, it’s still very much a This Wild Life track. The chorus builds the energy gently to carry the song along with refrains to get stuck in your head.

‘Pull Me Out’ shows change, but no so much it’s unrecognisable. This feels like a safe bet to ease them back into people’s attention again, making it not too indicative. However, it throws up ideas of where their sound may develop, namely somewhere less singalong and more emotive.
