After the UK’s Brexit vote, it seems like half of Britain wants to disappear to Ireland. If you’re one of those, or just fancy seeing the country, Kolumbus’ new video serves as the perfect tour guide. Unsurprisingly, the musician choose his moniker as a nod to his love to travel, and that’s just what he does. ‘I Hope You Find Happiness’ is four minutes of adventuring and exploring through Kolumbus’ Ireland. It’s the escapism dream.
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking the song is a bittersweet, passive aggressive message. ‘I Hope You Find Happiness’ is a heartfelt, passionate lament about the masses who left Ireland in search of something more. The man behind the music, Mark Caplice, said: “So many of my own friends and close family were among them and I saw first hand how difficult it is, both for those who leave and those who stay. I would never hold it against anyone for leaving. Life is too short to dwell on anything.”
Although there’s the personality and heart of sleeve charm of a lone singer/songwriter, Kolumbus is no doubt a full on pop rock affair. It’s joyful, thoughtful, and a lungful – try and sing along to the belting lyrics and you’ll have your work cut out. It holds so much happiness that you’ll definitely be smiling once its four minutes are up.
‘I Hope You Find Happiness’ is taken from his forthcoming debut EP Give Them Life. Let is fill you with happiness and fix a smile on your face. They don’t make heartfelt indie rock like this anymore.
