Shadow of the Tomb Raider Officially Revealed, Looks Grittier Than Ever

Tomb Raider

Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics have finally released the full trailer for the third instalment of the rebooted Tomb Raider series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. If things didn’t already look bleak for Lara in previous games, this one is taking things to a whole new level.

The trailer, which you can look at below with your eyeballs if you like, doesn’t reveal much in the way of gameplay, though mechanically it’ll probably be similar to the previous two games. It does, however, show off Lara taking down a full military unit like she’s a murderous Batman. We also get some glimpses of the threat that Lara is facing this time around, as she’s trying to stop a Maya Apocalypse. There’s temples and an eclipse and everything, it’s like Apocalypto. I’m also pretty certain there’s a huge spider at the 1:50 mark, so this game can get fucked.

As is always the way with new releases, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be launching with quite a few special editions in tow. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes things like a new wallpaper/theme, the digital soundtrack, a new outfit and weapon, along with the ability to play the game 48 hours before general release. The Croft version includes all that plus the Season Pass and more random gubbins.

If you’re feeling extra frivolous, the Ultimate Edition contains everything that the Croft Edition does, plus a Lara Croft statue, a bottle opener that looks like Lara’s “iconic” axe, and a torch. Square Enix haven’t mentioned anything about prices for these collections, but that Ultimate Edition is probably going to cost something in the triple digits.
