Resident Evil 4 Rises Again, Comes to VR

What’re Ya Buyin? Resident Evil 4 again? Cool.

Resident Evil 4

Publisher Oculus Studios and developer Armature Studio have announced that Resident Evil 4, the much-lauded survival horror classic that originally released back in 2005, is coming to VR on Oculus Quest 2 via Oculus Store on October 21st.

Resident Evil 4, where heralded a larger shift from survival horror to outright action gameplay for the Resident Evil series, follows special agent Leon S. Kenney on his mission to rescue the president’s daughter when she is kidnapped and taken to a mysterious rural village in Spain. The mission naturally goes awry as Leon has to shoot his way through legions of undead in order to save the president’s daughter.

The VR version will transplant RE4’s action into a first-person perspective, forcing players to get up close and personal with all of the enemies Leon has to shoot in the head. According to the game’s official page on the Oculus store, this version of RE4 will also feature a graphical overhaul to make the journey appear even more visceral and striking in VR.

While VR remains prohibitively expensive for many players, exciting releases continue to push what can be done with the nascent technology. The runaway hit of Beat Saber, and last year’s Half-Life: Alyx show how developers still hold hope for VR gaming to take hold.
