It has been the most popular console of this generation by some distance, so it should come as no surprise that Sony today announced that the PS4 has hit another sales landmark.

Since its launch back in 2013, Sony are reporting 70.6 million PS4 consoles have been sold, meaning it isn’t far off the PS3’s total of 83.8 million, which it is likely to beat at some point in 2018.

Sony also reported game sales of 617.8m – that’s retail and digital. No word on how many millions of them were for Life of Black Tiger.

In addition to the PS4’s success, PS VR continues its steady rise – two million units have now been sold.

Good figures all-round, but the PS4 still has some some catching up to do if wants to compete with its great-grandfather and grandfather. The PS1 sold 102 million units and the PS2 managed a staggering 155 million. Think it can do it?
