Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins confirmed today that Pedro Pascal will play the role of Maxwell Lord in the upcoming sequel.

Rumors of Pascal’s involvement in the movie date back as far as July of 2018 when Jenkins tweeted a photo of him during filming. Based on his apparel, it didn’t take long for comic fans to assume he was playing the longstanding DC businessman turned villain.

First appearing in Justice League #1 in 1987, Maxwell Lord has had a variety of incarnations and story arcs over the years. It’s yet to be seen if Wonder Woman 1984’s depiction of the character will follow an established arc or create a brand new origin story, but we’ll all find out when it releases in theaters on June 5, 2020.
