Overwatch’s Director Wants To See The Game’s Characters In Smash Bros.

"Cavalry's here!"

Overwatch Tracer

Overwatch’s director and main man Jeff Kaplan has confirmed that he would love to see any of the Overwatch characters make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This follows a wave of recent rumours that circulated before the announcement of Terry Bogard as the fourth DLC character that D.Va would be making her way to Smash.

In an interview with IGN, Jeff says that he’d be happy to see any member of the Overwatch roster be utilised in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: “To the Smash Brothers team, whatever character you want, we love them all. They’re all our babies, you can have any single one of them. We have 31 to choose from.”

While he’s happy for all 31 characters to be chosen, Kaplan clearly has a favourite that he’d like to see appear in the platform fighter: “Tracer’s our girl, Tracer’s our mascot. She’d be my first choice. There’s a lot of great runners up. I think a lot of people can immediately see Doomfist gameplay applying to Smash, but if it were up to me, I’d like to see Tracer.”

Considering that Tracer is the cover star for Overwatch, she’d be the obvious candidate to appear in a game filled to the brim with cover stars and standard-bearers for various franchises, some of which holding no current affiliation to Nintendo, though Doomfist would be a lot of fun too. As Overwatch is launching on the Switch on October 15th, and Nintendo have confirmed that more DLC characters are on the way beyond the initial 5 character season pass, the odds of seeing Tracer in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are highly likely.

Personally, seeing Tracer in Smash would be great, and it’d be interesting to see how her teleportation and time manipulation abilities could be used in-game. That said, I’m hoping beyond hope to see Roadhog as a playable character, even if it’s just as an Echo Fighter for King K. Rool. I think it could work, but let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
