More Hints That Matt Riddle Is Coming To WWE

Most of the pantheon of indie darlings have found themselves snapped up by WWE one way or another in the past few years, however there remains to be one that Vince and Hunter have yet to get their grubby mainstream paws on. Matt Riddle – The King of Bros – has quickly risen to prominence over the last couple of years, appearing across the globe showcasing his hybrid style of MMA and professional wrestling. Originally turned away for his history of drug use, Riddle has been kept at a distance from NXT, allowing him to flourish elsewhere in the meantime. That is, until now.

Rumours have been floating for the past few weeks about Triple H seemingly willing to give Matt Riddle ‘a second chance’ should he be willing to stay off the recreational drugs. Those rumours are all but confirmed at this point, with many of Riddle’s regular haunts announcing that he has pulled out of scheduled bookings – including this year’s BOLA tournament in PWG.

All patterns seem to lead to Summerslam – with his last independent dates currently set to be with EVOLVE, a promotion which he is champion of. He is set to face Shane Strickland in a title defence in August, with no confirmed dates afterwards, which could only go to suggest that he’ll be dropping the title and taking a bow from the independent scene from there on.

Universal speculation is that he’ll be the featured ringside guest at Takeover: Brooklyn, confirming his signing with NXT and likely debut over the latter part of the summer.

For those who are unfamiliar with Riddle, expect some very exciting action to be coming your way. Having a 8-3 record with the UFC and putting on some excellent matches with the likes of Keith Lee, Jeff Cobb and Zack Sabre Jr, fans of both MMA and wrestling are set to be dazzled by his varied in-ring style.
