Middle-earth: Shadow of War Gets Its Own Mobile Game

Shadow of War mobile

WB Games do seem to love pairing their tentpole releases with mobile counterparts, as we saw most recently with Injustice 2. Ahead of the game in the series’ release later this year, it’s the turn of Talion and co. to be in the palm of your hand with Shadow of War’s newly announced mobile game.

And yes, it’s free-to-play. Better start cancelling your bank accounts – unleashing vengeance on Sauron won’t come on the cheap.

Here’s the reveal trailer:

And the synopsis:

“Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced that Middle-earthâ„¢: Shadow of Warâ„¢ mobile, a free-to-play real-time RPG continuing Talion’s journey through Mordor, will feature iconic characters from Middle-earthâ„¢: Shadow of Mordorâ„¢ and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, including Celebrimbor, Eltariel, Gimli, Boromir and many more fan-favourites.”

I love mobile gaming. It’s so easy to mess with established canon and nobody really seems to give a damn. My Lord of the Rings knowledge is a little rusty, but I somehow doubt Boromir and Gimli belong on this side of the universe.

The press release also makes mention of the Nemesis system coming to the mobile version, so it’ll be interesting to see how that pans out on a smaller screen – you’ll be able to build your own orc army, but how will it work within the confines of free-to-play? Wait eleven days to add one more orc to your rabble?

Hold up, I think I see Faramir in the game. That’s erased any cynicism. Sign me the heck up.

Shadow of War Mobile comes this August for Android and iOS.
