Marvel Heroes Shutting Down One Month Early, Gazillion Employees Fired

Marvel Heroes Omega

There’s going to be a lot of families finding it hard to give thanks this weekend, as reports have come in that Gazillion Entertainment have fired nearly all of their employees right before the Thanksgiving weekend, and that their MMORPG Marvel Heroes will be shutting down tomorrow.

Though it had already been announced that Marvel Heroes was due to get cut, the expected turn off date was December 31st 2017. According to a former employee at Gazillion, the shut down of the company and Marvel Heroes was due to banking creditors effectively pulling the plug.

It gets worse too, as the staff are now being laid off without severance packages, benefits or even accrued holidays. Meanwhile, players who have dumped their well-earned cash into Marvel Heroes are demanding refunds, which obviously can’t be delivered upon if Gazillion can’t even cover the cost of their employees. It’s a shit sandwich for all concerned parties.

Laying off staff in a manner like this is always horrendous, but if there’s any silver lining to be had, it’s that the gaming industry tends to look after their own. Rob Echtar, the Senior Recruiter for Bethesda, and Blizzard Careers are reaching out to those affected.

Hopefully this means that most, if not all of the former Gazillion employees won’t have to worry about being unemployed for too long. They deserve better than this.
