Mafia 3 is the gaming highlight of October for a lot of people, which is impressive considering how stacked the release schedule is this month. Fans of the series have had to wait six long years for a sequel to the decent Mafia 2, but PC players aren’t best pleased. It’s locked in at only 30 frames per second.

In a message to those players, however, 2K are adamant that this will be fixed in an upcoming patch, along with plenty of other general improvements.

“We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!”

That’s a pretty impressive turnaround; it seems like two days maximum until the situation is resolved and PC players can avoid framerate caps. You have to ask how they didn’t already sort it out, but hey, I am not a games developer – it was probably somewhere on the list of the thousands of things they had to do before launch but just ran out of time.

If you’re interested in Mafia 3 and want to see if it deserves any hype, you will have to find out for yourself or wait until the reviews start trickling. 2K have not been sending out early review copies for press, so the only people who know how good Mafia 3 is are those who made it and those who bought it today. Early impressions are that it’s a flawed but seriously entertaining game with a killer soundtrack.
