Kongregate & Double Stallion Games Announce Speed Brawl

Speed Brawl

Well, here’s a potential contender for the best beat ’em up for the current generation. Kongregate and Double Stallion Games have announced that they’re working on Speed Brawl, a “2D combat racer” which sounds like the sort of genre blend we’d like to know more about.

Set in a dystopian London, of all places, you control a tag-team of fighters as you race through levels knocking seven shades out of anything unfortunate enough to stand between you and the goal. Those enemies include fiendish bosses, weird insects, aliens and big armoured bruisers, and it’s all captured in a glorious anime inspired art style.

Unlike most brawlers, speed and momentum play a vital role in combat, as the faster you move, the harder you hit. Maybe that’s why Sonic can destroy robots by just jumping at them. Players will also be able to upgrade skills and acquire new moves to make you a more proficient brawler, as you try and tackle the game’s 50+ levels across 4 leagues. There’s also online and local co-op to boot.

If you’re not convinced yet, just watch the trailer below. It looks absolutely fantastic. Speed Brawl will be releasing this September on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC via Steam and Kongregate’s own storefront Kartridge.
