Donald and Goofy to the rescue.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts III is just around the corner and Square Enix have released a brand new trailer featuring the game’s opening cinematic. The song featured in the trailer is Face My Fears, which was written by longtime series songwriter Utada Hikaru alongside American rapper Skrillex.

Friendship has always been a key element of Kingdom Hearts, so it’s no surprise that we see Donald and Goofy coming to Sora’s rescue at 1:19. The plot of the third main installment will once again see the young hero and his Disney counterparts embarking on a quest to recover the missing Guardians of Light, with the trailer showing Sora once again going into battle with his signature weapon, the Keyblade. Furthermore, we were given a glimpse of the series’ main villain, Master Xehanort, who is also a Keyblade Master. The story of Kingdom Hearts is notoriously complex, so just think of it as a Japanese RPG with Disney characters and you can’t go wrong.

Aside from Donald and Goofy, Kingdom Hearts III will also feature an assortment of worlds and characters from established Disney and Pixar franchises, including Toy Story, Frozen, and Big Hero 6. And naturally, Mickey Mouse will appear as the king of Disney Castle. The game will reportedly feature over eighty hours of content, so be aware that purchasing it will mean kissing your personal life goodbye.

Square Enix will publish Kingdom Hearts III on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Japan on January 25, and in the rest of the world on January 29, 2019.
