Here’s The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia As A Snowboarder

Snowboarder Geralt

Over the weekend, I watched all of Noclip’s documentary series on CD Projekt to date, which included how they started as a company from humble beginnings, their struggles, and how they brought the expansive world of The Witcher 3 to life. Nothing, however, was quite as vital as the revelation that devs had mocked up Geralt as a snowboarder.

The silver-haired murderbot was given a board, goggles, and a beanie to take on a mountain in the pseudo-mod, which the developers had created after messing around with the game’s sliding mechanics. According to CDPR environment artist Len de Gracia (transcript courtesy of Eurogamer:

“There was one point when we were like let’s implement this whole skidding thing that Geralt does when he’s on the slope, and people had just too much fun [so] they decided to try this on this mountain and fix Geralt’s texture so he looks like a snowboarder and they just let him go and made him skid [down].”

You can skip to the right bit shortly after sixteen minutes, but I really wouldn’t – I would actually recommend that you go right to the beginning of the series (which is here) and then go through every video released in the series to date. It’s full of interesting tales, particularly how gracious BioWare were to them at them one point and how Atari absolutely weren’t, but the thing that stuck with me the most? It’s pronounced “Seh-deh Proh-yek”.
