Ghost of Tsushima Release Date, Trailers and Latest News

Ghost of Tsushima 2

Sucker Punch’s newest IP, Ghost of Tsushima, was revealed at The Game Awards 2017. It looks completely different compared to the inFAMOUS games, but other than the first look, we don’t have much info about it.

The open-world game takes place in Japan and has you play one of the last surviving samurais on the island of Tsushima, however, we don’t know in what direction the gameplay will go, yet.

Here’s the info we’ve got so far:

What is Ghost of Tsushima’s release date?
Ghost of Tsushima’s release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, not even giving a rough timeframe in the announce trailer. Judging by how recently the game was announced, we can probably expect the game no earlier than 2019, but we’ll have to see how things develop. In an interview, they did say that they had been working on it since 2015, so who knows?

Where can I play Ghost of Tsushima?
In true Sucker Punch tradition (not including the first game they ever developed) and due to Sony owning the company, the game will be exclusive to PS4. PS4 Pro optimization has been as good as confirmed, as the developers said that they started working on the game as the PS4 Pro came out, wanting to support it (in part also by making patches for the inFAMOUS games on PS4). 4K, HDR, and other nifty effects are definitely on the table, and you can expect your standard PS4 to whirr as much as it does for God of War (if not more). We might find out more at E3 this year.

What genre does Ghost of Tsushima belong to?
The developers have said that the open world and giving freedom to players is a main focus of theirs while working on modern games in general, so it’s safe to say that you’ll be able to find those aspects in Ghost of Tsushima and called the game an “action-stealth-adventure game”

Ghost of Tsushima Synopsis

According to Sucker Punch:

The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan—until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting—the way of the Ghost—as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.

Ghost of Tsushima Rumours

Ghost of Tsushima 3

-There have been rumours that the game will release in 2018 already, despite what you might expect.
-However, other rumours say that the game is far from finished and will be released in 2019 or 2020. These rumours based themselves partly on recent Sucker Punch job postings for a gameplay programmer and senior environmental artist, however, them searching for these positions does not necessarily mean that they are still only at the start of development.

Ghost of Tsushima Quick Facts

Ghost of Tsushima

-Ghost of Tsushima will be based in 1247, in Japan, on the island of Tsushima.
-According to the creative director Jason Connell, Ghost of Tsushima is based on the fantasy of being a samurai that most people have, saying, “When you tell someone you get to play as a samurai, you don’t have to say anything else, you just have to say that fantasy and everyone just builds a list of scenarios and narratives and gameplay scenes that you might get to play.”
-Sucker Punch has teased that they’ll be showing more of the game at E3 this year.
