Fortnite: How To Enable 2FA

Fortnite 2FA

2FA, or two-factor authentication, is an extra security measure used by accounts in most major platforms. It helps to protect the user’s account by giving it one more layer of protection, besides the trusty username/password combination. But how do you enable 2FA in Fortnite, and what is it for?

In short, what 2FA does is ask for something more secure than simply entering the account’s username and password. That something more can be an email confirmation or a phone message, for example. With that, anyone trying to illegally get into your account will have a hard time as they’ll need access to your email and/or your phone.

Here’s how 2FA works in Fortnite and how you can enable it.

Fortnite 2FA Set-Up Guide

Given its large community, it’s not a surprise that Epic Games provides security measures for its users and safeguards their accounts (and skin lockers) against hackers.

However, even though it is available, not everyone knows how to enable 2FA for Fortnite. Fortunately, it’s really easy and takes little time.

You can decide to authenticate with your email, or to use an authenticator app on your phone. Here’s a quick step-by-step of how to enable 2FA for Fortnite:

– Go to your Epic Games Account Settings.
– Open the Password & Security tab.
– Scroll down and choose to Enable Email Authentication, or Enable Authenticator App.

In case you choose to authenticate with your email, things are relatively simple. All that you need to do is log into your email and prove you’re its owner.

As for the authentication with an app, you’ll need to download an app that can serve as an authenticator for your phone. Here’s a few apps that work both on Android and iOS devices:

– Microsoft Authenticator
– Google Authenticator
– Authy
– LastPass Authenticator

After installing one of those on your device, all that’s left to do is link your account to your phone by using the app.

Fortnite Tournaments and 2FA

So far, you know 2FA gives you more safety, and it’s quick and easy to do. But, if that isn’t reason enough for you to enable 2FA for Fortnite, keep in mind that you need 2FA in order to be able to participate in tournaments, which often have cash prizes up for grabs.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
