Fallout 5: 5 Possible Post-Apocalyptic Destinations to Explore

Fallout

Many of you will have reached the climax of the Fallout 4 campaign and are now aimlessly wandering the Commonwealth trying to avoid Preston Garvey at every turn. Since we are coming to the end of the DLC cycle for our most recent Fallout incarnation, it’s high time to start wondering, aloud, where next for the vault dweller?

These are my five picks for where we should be heading next for Bethesda’s subsequent adventure.

1. Scotland
As a different setting and a potential new storyline, why not? It has everything that the Commonwealth already possess in terms of wilderness and urban areas, not to mention having vaults placed in the highlands would add a certain romantic charm to the post-apocalyptic world. Whether the whole crossover from America to the UK in terms of general background would work is another matter.

However, raiders would sound probably more terrifying if they had Glaswegian accents than just plain American ones. In my opinion, it might just freshen up the franchise and give it a whole new lease of life. Plus, having Super-Mutants with Scottish accents would be absolutely hilarious.

2. The American Northwest
Specifically North Montana bordering Canada. Having the wilds of the Flathead National Forrest to explore after you emerge from the vault would be a different experience. Perhaps exploring places that could be almost untouched by the Great War in 2077. Maybe instead of being a vault dweller you can take on a different guise, or as someone who is exploring the vaults and needs to put together the pieces as to why this particular vault you’ve stumbled upon was abandoned. Plus, it would keep the Fallout franchise in America and hopefully keep us playing for hours and hours. The lack of any major urban areas would be a stumbling block if this was the next Fallout game.

3. Charleston, South Carolina
Somewhere in the south where the people are friendly and the drinks are tall and cold, Charleston would be an ideal setting for the next Fallout game. Steeped in history, Charleston is thesite of one of the first battles of the Civil War at Fort Sumter (which would be an excellent place for a Super-Mutant hideout or indeed a vault). The colourful houses and leafy parks along with the southern drawl would certainly make a change from the harsh realities of DC or Boston. It would also give the player an opportunity to explore a completely different part of the country in relation to New Vegas or the Commonwealth.

4. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The City of brotherly love. The city where the Declaration of Independence was signed and one of the most important cities in American History. Its instrumental role in the American Revolution makes it the perfect setting for another Fallout game. What we have already been given in Fallout 4, in terms of exploration and challenge, would only be matched and bettered by putting the next Fallout in Philly.

The history and the significance of Philly as a city in American History cannot be overlooked when considering the City of Brotherly Love. Not only did it serve as the nation’s capital whilst Washington DC was being built it was also home to America’s first library, hospital, stock exchange and zoo. It would be in a similar vein to that of DC but would, I hope, look a lot fresher rather than the dull greens and greys we were used to in Fallout 3.

5. San Francisco, California
Who wouldn’t want to be in the vault underneath the city by the bay? It has almost the perfect location, two large cities, Alcatraz, two national parks and a shed load of things to explore in the meantime. Plus, you would be right in the heart of the New California Republic.

For me it would be interesting to see, if Fallout: Francisco was made, the heart of the NCR and the world being rebuilt around you. It would also be nice to see the sunnier side of the States for a change. Why do I think that ‘Frisco should be the next destination for the Fallout series? Well, we were given glimpses of life in the NCR with Fallout: New Vegas. Why not go full out and have us explore the very heartland of the republic? You’ve got two big cities, a prison island and whacking great bridge in the middle of it all.

I wasn’t hooked on the new Fallout right away but it has grown on me. If they were to stick the next Vault on the West Coast then I would be bought hook, line and sinker because as we all know: War, war never changes.
