Duos Now Permanent Apex Legends Mode, Solos “Negatively Impacted Game”

That extra player was dead weight anyway (probably).

Apex Legends

Apex Legends kicked off its The Old Ways event this week, which saw Duos added to the game as a permanent addition to the matchmaking pool, meaning you no longer have to rely on an uncertain random player whenever playing with a friend.

Duos has been added to the game as part of prior events in the past, along with Solos, but this will be the first permanent addition to the game that changes team composition. Of course, fans are wondering whether we’ll see Solos added to the game, but for now, don’t hold your breath.

In a Reddit post, developers Respawn Entertainment explain that adding a Solos mode in the past wasn’t good for the overall health of the game: “When we introduced Solos as a limited-time mode last year we saw it actually negatively impacted the game, especially when it came to new player retention. We’ve also purposely designed Legends and their abilities to compliment teamplay and squad composition, but when played Solo some Legend abilities become useless.”

Respawn do reassure players that they are looking for ways to introduce a “Solo experience” to the game permanently, but for now, it’s teams or bust. Will you be playing Duos in Apex Legends? Let us know in the comments.
