Destiny: Things You Need to Do Before Festival of the Lost is Over

Festival of the Lost is Destiny’s second annual Halloween update. The Tower, the Reef, and the Iron Temple are all done up with decorations and the like, with occasional howls and screams heard in the distance. If you’re one of those people that just can’t get enough of this spooky time of year, then you’re in luck. The festival goes on for two weeks, ending on Nov. 8, meaning we have a little less than a week left before the social spaces return to their normal, non-Halloween’d selves. So here’s a few things you need to do (if you haven’t already) before the festival ends.

Fly a broomstick

When you enter the Tower, walk over to the building that holds Eververse and the Postmaster. You’ll notice a robot (apparently they’re called Frames) sweeping the floor… without a broom. If you stand around next to her for a while, you’ll hear her grieving over losing her favourite broom, cursing whoever stole it, and pondering some big questions, like: “What does the broom say? Broom Broom”.

If you run in to the bar/club area in the eastern part of the Tower, then head to the very back right corner, you’ll see the broom sitting on the top shelf. Jump up there and pick it up! That unlocks the ‘Lost Broom’, which can be found with your other Sparrows. It has the same speed and stats as the Iron Gjallarwing and the Velumbra, so it’s really just a cosmetic change, but IT’S SO COOL. Go do some patrols, and pretend you’re playing Quidditch or something. Unfortunately, the item will be gone from your inventory once the festival ends, so hurry up and get on it!

Spooky Trials of Osiris

Trials is the weekly Crucible competition where teams of 3 try to win 9 games for exclusive gear. If the team loses three games, they’re out for that week. The Trials from the first week have already ended, but Week 2 Trials are running from Nov. 4-8th.

Last week, a few tweaks were made to the gameplay: They removed the radar, and -more importantly- added jump scares. A good strategy for dealing with no radar is to turn up your volume, so you can hear your enemy coming. So while you’re super focused, listening closely, trying to get the jump on the other team, large spiders crawl down your screen and loud screams pop in and out. It makes for a really interesting challenge as the game tries to distract you from your objective.

I’m not sure if they’re going to do the same thing for the Trials of Osiris this week, or if they’re going to change it up. But either way, it’s something to look out for.

Get All The Free Stuff You Can

When you open up Destiny for the first time during the festival, an objective marker is placed on Eva Levante in the Tower. That’s where you get your quests to unlock various masks and things for the festival. Once you complete all of Eva’s quests, she rewards you with a Treasures of the Lost package. These are randomized packages that will give you a festival item from a set of about 20. Of these new items, my favourite is by far the ‘Ghost Ghost’. Just look at it. It’s a ghost dressed as a ghost. The best part is that it actually has a defense value (unlike masks) and you can infuse other ghost shells into it. So you could theoretically keep it on all year.

Once you open the treasure Levante gives to you, you can get more by spending Silver (a.k.a. real money) over at Eververse. I know most people would really rather not spend money on cosmetic changes – myself included – So the other way to get more chances at that sweet sweet Ghost Ghost is to complete Levante’s quest with your other two characters, if you have them. The quests are pretty easy to complete, and take maybe a little over an hour.

The Secret Quest for the Secret Shader

When you visit the Tower and start up the first quest from Eva Levante, she sends you around to the various NPCs to collect candy to fill up your loot bag. Eris Morn, the bundle of joy that she is, gives you a box of raisins instead. While it might just seem like a silly gag, it’s actually the start of an unmarked quest that results in you getting ‘Superblack’, a brand new legendary shader.

After receiving the raisins, run them over to the Speaker, and he’ll turn them into ‘Ascendant Raisins’ for 25 motes of light. Bring that to Zavala, who will exchange it for a ‘Salted Sweet’. From here, each candy will have a clue in its description as to who you’re to trade to next. But you don’t have time for that. After Zavala, go to the Cryptarch -> Amanda Holliday -> Cayde-6, then finally, back to Eris Morn. When you exchange the final candy, she’ll give you the super cool Superblack shader. Oh, and a piece of celery. Cause you know, Eris.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go fly around on my broomstick in search of the elusive Ghost Ghost.
