Dead Island 2: Can You Upgrade Rarity?

Dead Island 2

There are plenty of different weapons in Dead Island 2 that you can get your hands on, ranging from the lowly baseball bat to, well, still a baseball bat, but this one is electrified. The higher the rarity, the supposedly better the item, but is there any way to upgrade the rarity itself?

The answer is no, players cannot upgrade item rarity in Dead Island 2. The rarity is set to whatever rarity you found the item at to begin with.

Instead, players are able to apply mods and perks to increase their capabilities, and also pay big dollar to upgrade the weapons to match your levelling at a workbench. So, for instance, if your weapon is level 21 and you are level 25, you can spend money to upgrade the weapon to level match you, increasing its power.

Rarity isn’t the be all and end all in Dead Island 2, as it really just defines the general power of your weapon and also how many mod slots you can have. The later into the game you go, the more likely you are to find Legendary gear, the highest rarity, though you will usually need to complete sidequests for these.

Dead Island 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.
