Dead Island 2 is an action RPG with plenty of ways of customising the experience to your liking, whether that’s in the Slayer you choose, the gear you collect, or the way you go about defeating zombies in Hell-A. However, it can be quite the tricky game at points, with some small difficulty spikes in certain places, particularly when it comes to the sidequests. If you’re wondering if you can change difficulty in Dead Island 2, you may want to read on.
Players cannot change their difficulty in Dead Island 2, as there’s just one default difficulty that remains the same throughout.
If you’re struggling with a specific quest or boss in Dead Island 2, there are a few key things to bear in mind.
The first is to ensure that your gear is at the same level that you’re at by spending money at a workbench to level match, though do bear in mind that these are quite pricey. While you’re at a workbench, you should also ensure that you have the right mods and perks equipped for the situation, as you might be better off equipping a different mod for a weapon if an enemy is immune to a certain status effect. The same goes for the skill deck — make sure you have the best cards equipped.
Lastly, you can always take the action online and find a co-op partner to help you cut a swathe through the undead hordes too if you’re struggling with Dead Island 2’s difficulty.
However, if you’re wanting to actually increase the difficulty in Dead Island 2, there isn’t really much that can be done, as Dead Island 2 doesn’t have much in the way of particularly challenging endgame content. The only real suggestion is to maybe use less effective gear.
Dead Island 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.
