Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way since its shaky release in 2020. The developer, CD Projekt RED, has gone through so much to get the game closer to where it needs to be, and thankfully, they didn’t give up on it. Cyberpunk 2077 is now in a considerably more stable state. It even has an upcoming expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

Cyberpunk 2077 has now had 18 DLC throughout the years, but Phantom Liberty is its first, and hopefully not last, expansion. Here’s some more information on when Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is coming out and what it’ll be about.

When Is Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Coming Out?

The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account has stated that the Phantom Liberty expansion is coming out sometime in 2023. The two trailers have also confirmed this. Since no specific date has been announced yet, fans should expect the expansion to come out in the later parts of the year.

Also note that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is not a free expansion. The price for the expansion is still unconfirmed.

What Is Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty About?

Players will once again be taking on the role of V, the player-created protagonist who changed the balance of power in Night City in one way or another. They will be helping out the president of the New United States of America (NUSA) and Solomon Reed, a government agent from a NUSA organization known only as the FIA.

The Pacifica Combat Zone, a currently walled-off region, will be the primary setting for the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion. There are ways to exploit the game and use glitches to get into the Combat Zone right now, but you won’t find anything there except an empty and incomplete area.

The full plot hasn’t been revealed yet, and fans are still debating on when Phantom Liberty would even occur on the Cyberpunk timeline. Some people believe that the expansion’s story takes place after the main game, in one of the endings where V lived. Others believe that Phantom Liberty takes place just before the main game’s ending and might even open up a new big ending.

Players saw Johnny Silvehand in the trailer, which led them to believe that Phantom Legacy occurs before the end, but then again, maybe a part of him remained in V after the engram removal.

Which Platforms Will Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Be On?

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will only be available on PC and next-gen consoles. If you bought Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, the PS5, or the Xbox Series X|S, then you’re in luck.

However, if you only have an Xbox One or a PS4, your copy of Cyberpunk 2077 will not be able to download Phantom Liberty. CD Projekt RED has ceased support for the game on these platforms. So, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t receive any further updates, DLCs, or expansions on them, but there is a free update to the newer platforms for those who own the last-gen versions.

The Google Stadia was another platform where Cyberpunk 2077 initially launched. However, after Google Stadia’s shutdown in January 2023, you can no longer play Cyberpunk 2077, or any game for that matter, on the platform.
