As a game that’s been in the making for many years with a massive budget, it should come as no surprise that Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most vivid, visually breathtaking (yes) games of all time. But it’s also even prettier when you enable HDR.

Curiously, HDR isn’t on by default in Cyberpunk 2077 and you don’t have the option to enable it before you start a new game or start it for the first, which is fairly unusual. Instead, you have to dive into your in-game settings.

To enable HDR in CYberpunk 2077, go to Settings > Visual > Display > HDR Mode and then switch to HDR10 PQ.

Once that’s done, you can then fiddle with the HDR settings to calibrate them with your display. Each platform will have a different input for this, but it’s R3 with a DualShock 4/DualSense. Find the prompt at the bottom right.

As for what HDR is and why you should switch it on in most games, HDR effectively makes colour much fuller and more detailed, giving blacks and whites more density and generally making scenes feel more cinematic while also close to real life. It pairs well with 4K, but can really make a difference on its own if you don’t have a 4K display.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
