Charlotte Flair Wins SmackDown Live Women’s Championship

8x.

Charlotte

In a shocking turn of events a fortnight away from WrestleMania, we have a new SD Live Women’s Champion. The Queen defeated Asuka in an impromptu title match to open the show this week, which despite the result, was actually an incredible contest.

Fans have been quick to address the lack of obvious direction for Asuka since winning the title, and especially going into Mania season. It’s a shame that The Empress won’t be included in any high profile title matches, but that isn’t to say she won’t be on the card somehow.

With the Raw title taking the main event spot with the triple threat, surely there must be some plan in place for the SmackDown division. Whether that means Charlotte will somehow drop the title over the next week, or some sort of number one contender’s match happening on the grandest stage, I wouldn’t count them out yet. After all, this is the WrestleMania that aims to put the spotlight on the women, so why would they actively exclude a majority of their female roster?

Regardless of what happens with Asuka, both of the Women’s Championships are now included as part of the WrestleMania main event. Thoughts and opinions on Charlotte aside, it’s hard to deny that having the Raw and SD Live champions battling in the main event is pretty cool.

We’ll see where this goes in the go-home shows.
