Ever since making the step up to the main WWE roster, Baron Corbin has looked a little aimless. After winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestlemania, big things were to expected, but it just hasn’t panned out for him at all. He has had no drive to go forward, which doesn’t help that he’s been stuck in meaningless feuds that push him sideways. As things are, he’s just making up the numbers.
As predictable as it might be, there’s a strong case to be made for him to join The Wyatt Family. Whether it’s down to his looks or demeanour, it would be the boost that both need.
The Lone Wolf gimmick has worked okay for Corbin so far, making him seem like an outcast, but when you’re stuck down in the lower midcard, the last thing you need is to be ostracised from potentially great angles. Since coming to Smackdown, he hasn’t done much of anything, beating Apollo Crews (someone who deserves far better) on numerous occasions and little else.
The Wyatt Family have been looking to replenish their numbers since Braun Strowman was drafted to RAW and as a cult, they should be expanding in numbers, not dwindling. The Wyatt Family should be a disease for Smackdown, but as things are, they’re less harmless than the common cold. Even though Luke Harper has now returned to the stable, they need to advance, not return to the status quo. With the addition of Corbin, they could become a serious force to be reckoned with again.

Using The Wyatt Family to push a singles career isn’t anything new. Daniel Bryan, already riding on a wave of popularity, found his beard surrounded by three others when he became a member and it acted as the catalyst for what would become one of the most memorable Cinderella stories in WWE history. Although Corbin will likely never reach the same level of popularity, acquainting the wider WWE fandom with what he’s about by partnering him with already over stars is what he needs.
How do you make The Lone Wolf join something bigger than himself, though? It’s pretty simple: do it against his will. Just like Bryan, Bray should invite him to a stipulation match that will mean Corbin becomes a part of the Family if he loses. Survivor Series is just around the corner with the smart money being on Randy Orton doing what he always does and having a team at the PPV to take on The Wyatts. With Corbin and one other (possibly a “guest” appearance from Strowman), The Wyatt Family should be the favourites. If the sight of Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan, Braun Strowman, Luke Harper and Baron Corbin sharing the same corner doesn’t make you feel redneck-y goosebumps, it really should.
The Wyatt Family have been one of the most stop-start stables in wrestling history, which might sound hyperbolic, but it’s true. When once they looked invincible and like the best thing to come out of NXT, countless squash matches, poor booking, and the loss of what made them so great in the first place, they’ve since become also-rans. Considering how spectacular the Elimination Chamber match between them and The Shield was and how much the former members of the latter have accomplished since, The Wyatt Family often feel like an afterthought.
Baron Corbin could still have a successful singles career, but when you look at the playing field, there’s simply nowhere left for him to go. The roster is almost perfectly stacked for angles and storylines right now, minus one or two outliers – Corbin being one of them. Instead of pushing forward with a meaningless feud with Jack Swagger that will most likely just push the Kansas native even further back into the periphery, WWE need to pull the trigger and give him something to chew on.
