The Training Room is a sub-room aboard the Otago in Aliens: Dark Descent that needs to be unlocked before players can gain access to it. It’s a part of the Barracks, along with the Armory and Memorial.
To unlock the Training Room in Aliens: Dark Descent, players must complete the second mission’s main objectives, Berkley’s Docks. This is quite a long and involved mission that also introduces human enemies, and as such you can expect it to take a couple of hours to get through.
Get back to the Otago and you will now find that the Training Room is unlocked under the Barracks. Its usefulness isn’t that obvious to begin with, especially if you don’t have many Marines, but it really does come in handy when you have lower level Marines that aren’t as useful as your “main” Marines.
Basically, what the Training Room does is allow you to give Marines Intensive Training, meaning that they will earn experience and level up even when they aren’t deployed, guaranteeing that even if you lose some Marines, you will have others waiting in the rooms at a similar level.
The amount of days it takes for Marines to level up varies, but it’s usually 3+ days on average. You can cancel their Intensive Training at any time, but bear in mind that they will be Exhausted after, meaning that they cannot be redeployed, but this effect will wear off after a day or so.
The Training Room is a very useful tool all in all aboard the Otago, so make sure that you’re making full use of it when you have a full suite of Marines at your disposal. Beware sending too many soldiers there at once though, as you may not have any available soldiers for a new deployment if your soldiers return back wounded (which they almost always do) from a previous mission.
