6 Kingdom Hearts 3 Features To Look Forward To

Parkour! (Parkour!)

There have been a lot of trailers for Kingdom Hearts 3 in the last couple of years, with each one outdoing the last by bringing more exciting reveals and even more impressively polished gameplay. With the release date fast approaching and so many new features being revealed, it’s been hard to keep up. So, for anyone who might’ve been worried they missed something, here are some of the most exciting new features to look forward to in Kingdom Hearts 3.

1. Keyblade Transformations

Convoluted story aside, the gameplay is going to be taken to a whole new level of crazy with Kingdom Hearts 3. Keyblade transformations stand out as one of the biggest new features to shake up the combat system. Each Keyblade has two different stages of transformations, each unlocking a unique ability or attack style for Sora.

Transformations include, but are not limited to, laying the smack-down with dual-wielding yo-yos, or blasting your enemies into oblivion with a bazooka. Players are also being given the ability to switch between three of their Keyblades on the fly to help access even more of these transformations and create some truly absurd combos.

2. New Worlds

Kingdom Hearts 3

Currently, there are at least ten worlds confirmed for Kingdom Hearts 3, with the majority of these being brand new worlds never before seen in the Kingdom Hearts saga. While there aren’t as many playable worlds as in previous titles, the scale and scope will be vastly improved with each world having hours upon hours’ worth of content. It will also be the first title in the series to feature Pixar films as playable worlds.

The new worlds so far confirmed are Big Hero 6, Toy Story, Frozen, Tangled, Monsters Inc. and Scala Ad Caelum. On top of all these, some old worlds will be returning with new areas to explore. We should also expect the original Kingdom Hearts worlds, Radiant Garden and Destiny Islands to be featured. They are likely to play a crucial role in the story since being the homeworlds to many of the games main characters.

3. Mini-Games

I hope you like mini-games because there’s going to be a lot of them in Kingdom Hearts 3, and they all look pretty awesome. The newest of these includes a Ratatouille-themed cooking game, and a whole range of 1980’s LCD-style mini-games, inspired by the classic black and white Mickey Mouse animations. If you’re eager to check these out, a sample of them can be played right now on the Classic Kingdom mode of Kingdom Hearts Union X.

Also, the space battle themed Gummi ship missions will once again be making a return and looks to be vastly improved, this time being completely three-dimensional and giving players the freedom to travel anywhere. And with players returning to the 100 Acre Wood (the world that goes hand-in-hand with mini-games) as well, there’s going to be even more high scores to set.

4. Freerunning & Parkour

First experimented with in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, parkour is making a return and this time adds freerunning into the mix. Judging by the trailers and gameplay footage, the flow motion mechanic in Kingdom Hearts 3 has had some much-needed toning down from its inclusion in the previous title.

The inclusion of these two features adding the ability to traverse almost any wall or surface will make this Kingdom Hearts game one of the most free-roam, open-world games in the series so far. However, the freerunning element has caused some concern from fans due to the way it illuminates the walls which the player can climb, breaking immersion.

5. Familiar Faces

kINGDOM HEARTS 3

Alongside all of the characters that we knew were returning, there have been quite a few unexpected characters that will be making reappearances. While they’re not exactly new characters, it will certainly be exciting to see the return of fan-favourites like Marluxia and Larxene, who have not made an appearance since the release of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, in 2009.

The cover art for the game has also revealed many of the games returning heroes, including the likes of Roxas, Xion and Namine – all of whom have so far had little exposure in the trailers for Kingdom Hearts 3. Nomura has mentioned that he didn’t want to reveal much of Roxas since his role will be extremely important to the story.

6. Attraction Flow

The all-new Attraction Flow mechanic is perhaps the most spectacular and ludicrous feature of the latest Kingdom Hearts game. It gives players the power to weaponise popular Disney themed rides to crush their enemies and feel like your at a funfair at the same time. You can only find this level of ridiculous in Kingdom Hearts.

While Attraction Flow is at the forefront of the new Disney themed content, Sora can also summon never-before-seen Disney heroes like Wreck-It Ralph to give him a helping hand in battle. And if that wasn’t enough, alongside Sora, Donald and Goofy, your party now has room for two extra Disney companions. Unfortunately, this means that you probably won’t be able to replace Donald from your party.
