Christmas creeps ever closer and brings with it its sweeping, inescapable soundtrack.

There’s a time and a place, except that by the time that time and place comes into place you’ve already OD’d on sleigh bells and schmaltz. However, as the inevitable inches ever onwards, we here at Cultured Vultures can help alleviate that festive overfeeding with a palette cleanser. In so much as an adrenaline shot straight to the heart is a palette cleanser for that heroin induced coma and respiratory failure you’re currently dying from. That’s just how we do palette cleansers here.

Thankfully, that’s how Sauropod do them too.

While the Norwegian three-piece’s debut isn’t due until January of next year, the trio have been nice enough to drop a little taster of what’s to come in the shape of ‘Headphones’, and what a perfect contrast to everything you’re currently drowning in it is. Not even two minutes in length (it clocks in at a concise one minute and fifty seconds), ‘Headphones’ is a pure, unadulterated, brash clash of skanking and scuttling summer hooks, dense grunge riffs with the looseness of worn-out elastic, lo-Cal lo-fi punk laced with a Norwegian flavour that adds heaps of quirk and charm to proceeding.

Above all though, Sauropod offer up an exuberant energy that is not only hard to resist, it would be ill-advised and unhealthy to do so. For your own wellbeing, it’s for the best that you take that adrenaline shot to the heart and get your palette cleansed. Your life truly does depend on it.

At the very least it’ll blow out the tinsel-laden cobwebs descending in your skull as Christmas zombification sets in. Sauropod. ‘Headphones’. Turn it on, turn it up. Repeat.
