Two big name actors have joined the cast of Paul W.S. Anderson’s upcoming Monster Hunter movie. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that T.I. Harris and Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman will both appear in the video game adaptation, which begins filming next month in South Africa. The production budget will reportedly be around $60 million.

Perlman, who is perhaps best known for his role as Hellboy, will star as a character named Admiral, while Harris will play a sniper named Link. The only other confirmed cast member is Anderson’s wife, Milla Jovovich, who will play a woman known as Artemis.

Anderson is no stranger to video game adaptations, as he also directed Mortal Kombat and four of the Resident Evil movies. In addition to directing, he also wrote the screenplay for Monster Hunter and will produce alongside Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer. Sony will distribute the film, although a release date has not been specified.

Monster Hunter Generations

Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise has sold over fifty million copies, so a film adaptation was bound to happen eventually. The games place you in the role of a nameless hunter, and task you with slaying large and fearsome beasts across a fantasy setting. The plot of the film is mostly unknown at this point, so we don’t know how closely it will follow the games. However, Anderson did offer the following vague description about the film’s premise, which is all we have to go on for now.

“For every Monster, there is a Hero. An ordinary man in a dead end job discovers that he is actually the descendant of an ancient hero. He must travel to a mystical world to train to become a Monster Hunter before the mythical creatures from that world destroy ours.”

You can expect to hear more news about Monster Hunter when it begins principle photography next month.
