League of Legends Founders Answer Fan Questions in New Video

Riot co-founders Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck

Riot Games co-founders Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck recently sat down to answer questions sent in by League of Legends fans, and talked about everything from champion changes to what games (besides League!) that they’re currently playing.

Beck and Merrill also talk about some of the creation history behind League of Legends, including its original titles (“Hero Wars” and “Onslaught” were two edgy possibilities), and how they feel as if the mistakes and failures that happened along the way are actually “cherished” by the pair, as they represent all the hard work and learning opportunities that Riot has experienced throughout the years. They also laugh off the idea of parents seeing video games as something “valuable”, but go on to state that parents who have never been gamers themselves will always probably see games as something “incredulous” rather than useful, whereas parents who have played games themselves can be more sympathetic to games’ learning opportunities.

The video was created to celebrate the one-year anniversary of “Ask Riot”, a space on the official League of Legends site where players can ask questions about anything and everything to do with League, and a knowledgeable Rioter will get back to them with an answer. The only rules for Ask Riot are as follows:

  • Ask questions about gameplay, art, champion design, skins, new features, lore or what’s coming up in League.
  • One question at a time, pls.
  • Don’t ask support questions here, go to Player Support to get those issues resolved.
  • We can’t promise to answer every question, but we do try to read them all!
