Ahead of the release of Hitman 3, developer IO Interactive has shared a few more details about the modes you should expect from next year’s game. What might pique the interest is what they are taking out instead, though.

Ghost Mode will not be making a return for Hitman 3 and it will actually be taken offline in Hitman 2 as well on August 31st, 2020.

A 1v1 competitive multiplayer mode, Ghost Mode saw two agents battling against each other to kill the most targets within a set amount of time. While a neat idea, it doesn’t seem to have resonated with the wider Hitman community, which is presumably the reason why IO are taking it offline and why it won’t be returning for the third game.

Their statement:

“1v1 competitive multiplayer came to the Hitman franchise for the first time with Ghost Mode. With our focus currently on other areas of the World of Assassination, Ghost Mode won’t be featured in HITMAN 3 and we have made the difficult decision to shut down the Ghost Mode servers for HITMAN 2 on Monday 31st August 2020. We have learnt a hell of a lot from Ghost Mode over the last two years and we’ll be taking all of those learnings onboard for what we do in the future with regards to multiplayer.”

As for The Phantom Suit, which can only be earned by playing Ghost Mode, it will be coming to Hitman 3 as an unlock. You still have time to get it for the second game, though you may struggle to find opponents and time is quickly running out.

Hitman 3 is due for release in January 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC. It will also be getting PlayStation VR support, which may well be the coolest thing ever.
