While it has its inconsistencies, the Spriggan anime is a worthy adaptation of the classic 90s manga. Packed to the brim with riveting fight scenes and a mix of detailed CGI and stellar 2D animation, it quickly caught the attention of fans who wanted to experience a reimagined vintage story. As spectacular as the first season was, Spriggan: Season 2 needs to happen since the plot is yet to come full circle.
Unfortunately, Netflix hasn’t renewed the anime, so the fate of Spriggan: Season 2 remains uncertain. The show did manage to top charts worldwide, which is a great sign, but another obstacle in the way is the anime’s studio David Production ramping up development on its upcoming Undead Unluck anime. This will inevitably lead to a delay, but if you’re curious about when Spriggan will return, here’s everything you should know.
When Is Spriggan: Season 2 Coming Out?
Spriggan: Season 2 does not have a release date. The anime is a Netflix exclusive series made by David Production, and so far neither company has commented on whether another season is in the works, though considering the anime ended with most character arcs left unresolved, it probably already is.
Whether an anime continues or not is often decided by its popularity. For instance, Netflix ordered five back-to-back seasons of Baki after it became an instant hit a few years back. Meanwhile, it took five years for us to hear from Netflix that Kengan Ashura: Season 3 is coming. Spriggan’s an anime tied between these two extremes, however, if we’re talking solely about fame, the anime did perform very well in its debut month. That isn’t good news per se, but because the anime did capture some attention, Netflix might just greenlight Spriggan: Season 2. There’s also the fact that Netflix almost always brings its anime full circle, if not soon, then in a couple of years.
What Is Spriggan: Season 2 About? (Spoiler Alert)
Season 1 roughly covered the first four volumes of the original manga. Many arcs in between were skipped to make things concise. The ending in particular was adapted from the seventh volume instead of the fourth or fifth, and that leaves behind a bunch of story moments that will likely be featured in Spriggan: Season 2.
The closing moments of Season 1 revealed Sho Kanaya, an assassin who had been tasked with killing Yu. In Spriggan: Season 2, Sho will enroll in Yu’s school, and once he has fooled the faculty, he’ll try getting close to Yu in hopes of finding the perfect moment to carry out his orders. But as expected, Yu catches on, and the aftermath is a little more violent than you can imagine.
Which Studio Is Making Spriggan: Season 2?
The first season of the anime was adapted by David Productions. If you’re a fan of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, that name might ring a bell. And if it doesn’t, then you should know that David Productions has animted many acclaimed anime such as Fire Force, Captain Tsubasa, and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
Fortunately, David Productions will also be animating Spriggan: Season 2. There’s no reason for a change in production companies in a second season, though if there’s anything you should be worried about, it’s that David Productions is working on releasing Fire Force: Season 3 in 2024, so that could push back Spriggan’s return by quite a while.
Where Will Spriggan: Season 2 Be Aired?
Spriggan: Season 2 will air exclusively on Netflix. It’s not known whether Netflix specifically ordered the series, but as far as streaming rights are concerned, Netflix is the only place to watch the anime. More than a year has passed since Spriggan first aired, and it has still not been released on any other platform like Crunchyroll or Funimation. Checking out all of the facts, going with a Netflix subscription will be the best bet if you’re a fan.
