PREVIEW: Gotham

Emma Rhodes looks forward to the new Batman origin story, Gotham, due to hit television screens this year.

Gotham focuses on the origins of Commissioner James Gordon and his rise in importance within the city of crime: Before Batman, there was Gotham!

There are plenty of famous faces within the cast. Ben McKenzie (The OC) plays a young Detective James Gordon and many are very excited to see his return to their screens after a break from acting. The Detective comes across a number of characters who we quickly learn are the villains and infamous Batman characters we have seen take on Batman himself.

Gotham

David Mazouz plays the young Bruce Wayne as he becomes an orphan following the shooting of his parents, re-enacted from Batman Begins. We come to learn of the close relationship the Detective has with the young dark crusader and how he has impacted and influenced the decisions Bruce goes onto make as he protects Gotham from numerous rogues.

Gotham

McKenzie shall also be joined by Donal Logue (Blade and The Patriot) as fellow Detective Harvey Bullock, Clare Foley as Ivy Pepper, Robin Lord Taylor who shall be portraying the malicious Penguin (Oswald Cobblepot), Sean Pertwee is set to give a fantastic performance of Alfred Pennyworth, contrasting Michael Caine’s portrayal of the Wayne Butler. Camren Bicondova is also set to join the cast as the future Catwoman, Selina Kyle, before the Catwoman Anne Hathaway brought to The Dark Knight Rises.

Gotham

Jada Pinkett Smith is joining Gotham as new exciting character Fish Mooney, a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner. There are many rumours circulating over which Mooney really is or could reveal herself to be an old character revisited. The hot favourite at the moment is a younger version of Great White, a crooked financier who pleaded insanity to escape a prison sentence. Some even believe she may be telepathic but the more believable rumour is that Pinkett’s character shall actually be Catwoman’s mother but this may not be confirmed till later within the story.

Gotham

Executive producer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) wrote the pilot, which was directed and executive-produced by Danny Cannon (CSI, Nikita). The new vision of Gotham naturally stays dark but the characters are supposedly to aim for the more villains in costume theme, keeping it clear as to who they are, instantly recognisable for the audience, who will already know of what the evil villains are capable of.

With Gotham already being a hot topic of conversation, it shall definitely have a large audience ready to tune in to reveal the truths embedded into the dark city.
