I’m not sure who exactly was asking for another Pirates of the Caribbean movie but nevertheless Disney have decided to roll out a fifth instalment in the swashbuckling, rum smuggling, ship swaying cinematic franchise in time for 2017. It is being rumoured for release some point around May 2017 and will be featuring by the familiar faces of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush as well as introducing esteemed actor Javier Bardem who will be playing the antagonistic role of a spooky ghost pirate.

A teaser trailer has been released just a day after Disney teased fans with a still of the new black and gold skull logo. Although the trailer shows very little in terms of plot, reactions have already been overwhelmingly positive. The implications from the trailer are that a down on his luck Captain Jack is being pursued once again by a band of charismatic but ultimately ghoulish ghost pirates and there will probably be a whole bunch of call backs, catchphrases and cameos to fill the gaps.

Though the trailer is brief, it is enough to begin generating online discussion and no doubt it will only be a matter of months before Disney begin releasing more trailers, proportional art, posters, logos, interviews and all else to keep us informed of the upcoming high seas adventure. So far the franchise has made $3.7 billion in four films with the 2011 release of On Stranger Tides raking in $1 billion alone. I’m sure Disney executives are hoping to strike gold again with this newest instalment to the series.
