Black Butler: Season 4, also known as Black Butler: Public School Edition, is coming, so have your demonic housekeepers get your enrollment papers ready. The show has been silent for years, with the last entry, Book Of The Atlantic, coming out in 2017, but now the silence is about to be broken.

Where will Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michalis’ investigations take them this time? Here’s everything you should know about Black Butler: Season 4.

When Is Black Butler: Season 4 Coming Out?

Crunchyroll announced Black Butler: Season 4 at the Anime Expo 2023. An exact release date hasn’t come out yet, but it is set to come out sometime in 2024. The trailer, which you can see below, also confirms this date.

Crunchyroll didn’t just make the announcement, they also got the license to stream it outside of Japan.

Black Butler: Season 4 will be co-produced by Aniplex and Cloverworks.

What Is Black Butler: Season 4 About?

The last movie, Book Of The Atlantic, covered the Luxury Liner Arc in the Black Butler manga. You won’t have to guess which arc Black Butler: Season 4 will cover. The season is literally called Public School Edition. The next arc after the Luxury Liner Arc is called Public School Arc, which covers Chapters 67-85 or Volumes 14-18 of the manga.

The Public School Arc will take place at Weston College, Great Britain’s most prestigious public school and a real British college still standing today.

The plot will be about students going missing. One of which is Derrick Arden, Queen Victoria’s cousin’s son. Investigation isn’t going to be easy for Ciel and Sebastian because the school is so strict, that it doesn’t allow anyone but students and faculty inside. Not even Ciel’s position as the Queen’s Watchdog will allow him easy access.

So, Ciel must enroll in the college, with Sebastian joining as a housemaster. Together, they must solve the disappearances before it gets any worse.

Black Butler: Season 4 Confirmed Cast

The cast will likely stay largely the same. However, for now, the only confirmed cast members for Black Butler: Season 4 are Ciel and Sebastian. The main Black Butler website reveals that much in the cast section of the site. The voice actors playing them have been doing so since Season 1, which bodes well for the rest of the cast.

  • Maaya Sakamoto as Ciel Phantomhive
  • Daisuke Ono as Sebastian Michaelis

The English cast hasn’t come out yet, but again, there isn’t really any reason to change them. The voice actors who voiced these two in English have also voiced them since Season 1.

Where To Watch Black Butler: Season 4 In The US

Crunchyroll has the license to stream Black Butler: Season 4 worldwide, except for Japan. So anyone in a country with access to Crunchyroll, such as the US, can watch Season 4 there.

If you’re looking for the other seasons though, Crunchyroll isn’t the best option since it currently only has the Black Butler: Book Of The Atlantic movie. Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, on the other hand, have them all.

Funimation has most of the show but is missing Book Of Murder and Book Of The Atlantic.

Hulu only has the first two seasons.

Where To Watch Black Butler: Season 4 In The UK

Similar to the US, the most likely platform for Black Butler: Season 4 in the UK would be Crunchyroll.

The past seasons are a problem though. Crunchyroll only has season 1, and no other streaming service seems to have the show. You purchase physical copies from Amazon, but if you don’t have a DVD/Blu-ray player, then what?

Well, another option would be to use a VPN and switch your IP address to an American one. Now you can access the sources mentioned above to watch the other seasons, movies, and OVAs. If Crunchyroll decides to region-block Season 4, this will also solve that.

How Many Episodes Will Black Butler: Season 4 Have?

The episode count for Black Butler: Season 4 is still unknown. Typically, anime seasons will have 12 or 24 episodes, but that hasn’t always been the case with Black Butler.

Season 1 has 24 episodes, Season 2 has 12 episodes, Season 3/Book Of Circus has 10 episodes, and Season 4/Book Of Murder has 2 OVAs.

Does Black Butler: Season 4 Have A Trailer?

The trailer came out on July 4, 2023, through the official Black Butler Twitter account and the Aniplex YouTube channel.

The trailer doesn’t really show much though, just brief glimpses of Ciel and Sebastian. It felt more like they were hyping up the show’s return rather than what the actual plot is going to be.
