5 Quick Tips for the Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Tech Test

Titanfall 2

Before we begin, let me start off by admitting that I am not particularly good at Titanfall 2’s multiplayer at all. Since joining the “tech test”, which is open until the 21st, I have been very snugly nestled in the realms of averageness. If you’re looking for a professional player to give you the rundown, I may not be your guy.

That being said, matches have become a lot easier the more I play. Titanfall 2’s multiplayer is a daunting prospect for new players, largely because of how much there is to take in – all the different loadouts, skills, boosts, and so on. Over the course of my five hours with the pre-alpha, I have picked up a few tricks that have helped me occasionally clamber out of averageness and won the day for my team.

1. Don’t stop moving
If you have the S Club song in your head now, we can be friends.

Titanfall 2 is all about speed; that should be instantly obvious once you pick up the controller and notice you’re gliding through the map like a knife through warm butter. One of the quickest ways to get yourself killed? Standing in one place and not taking advantage of the parkour skills the game gives you.

If you’re anticipating a tricky firefight, try to jump into battle instead of running. This gives you the element of surprise and also adds ten points to your badass levels.

2. Believe in the progression system
One of the biggest aspects of the pre-Alpha that might turn a lot of players away is just how unforgiving it is for brand new players.

During my first few games, it seemed like I was outgunned and outnumbered at every turn; the opposition just had better unlocks and knew how to use them. If you find yourself constantly dying as a level 1 player, consider it a rite of passage until you unlock better skills – the medic one is particularly potent for me, allowing quicker movement speed and also healing.

3. Group Up
Titanfall 2 is a game of fine margins. In a straight firefight, thanks to auto-aim, it usually ends up being a case of who fired first over actual skill. So the last thing you want to do is to be left on your own as you see a bunch of enemy players coming towards you – it usually results in your digital death and some swearing.

Team up with one or two fellow pilots when you’re starting off to help you adjust to the game’s pace and style. This is especially helpful if you’re being flanked (which will happen a lot in any given match) as you can cover multiple directions at once. Two guns are better than one, right.

4. Who’s a good Titan?
Titanfall 2’s multiplayer tech test gives you access to two Titans: Scorch and Ion. Both of these gigantic metal murder machines have their own “personalities”, so you can pick one that suits your style.

However, sometimes when you do call a Titan in it can be best to not jump on in and start shooting. You can order your Titan to guard or follow you when it’s on auto-pilot, freeing you up to go and do some wild parkour and also offering another offensive line. Yes, the AI might not be as good as you at killing people, but it can provide a solid, dangerous distraction while you mop up the grunts.

As for which is best, Scorch seems to be far more powerful in the right hands. Ion is a little weak for my liking.

5. Money in the bank
Bounty Hunt is the new mode for Titanfall 2 and it can be an absolute bitch if you don’t know how to play it properly.

You must fight over different bounties with the opposition, which come in the form of waves of enemies. Depending on the danger posed by them, you can a varying amount of dollar – $10 for a grunt, $200 for a Titan. If you’re piling on the fat stacks, it might be a good idea to avoid confrontation.

If you’re killed with a heavy sack of loot on your back, the enemy steals half of it. So, if you kill a Titan and savour that sweet payday only to see it dwindle into almost nothingness thanks to constant deaths with no return, you need to find your way to the bank to deposit it. Going for the long streak and saving up huge sums is tempting, but the thought of losing a massive chunk of your money and effectively giving it to the opposition should deter you.

Those are my quick tips for Titanfall 2’s multiplayer pre-alpha. Are you enjoying the game? Does it live up to the original? Let me know.
