A new type of storm trooper

It’s a slow Thursday morning and you’re dragging yourself out of bed, forcing your aching feet towards the weekend – then, all of a sudden, you see ‘Star Wars‘ on your Facebook wall. The first trailer for Rogue One will land later today. Until you’ve seen it all food turns to dust in your mouth.

It lands on YouTube; proof once again that Disney knows exactly how to bend and twist our fragile nerd brains to its every whim. Which is our way of saying the Rogue One trailer is packed with moments that will make you utter small whimpering noises of geek joy.

Let’s get into it. Our lead played by Felicity Jones (or Jyn Erso as she’s called in the trailer) is a petty crook in the galactic empire. It looks like she’s got Han Solo-esque street smarts and a hot headed temper. Then out of nowhere she’s in a rebel base talking to … is that Mon Mothma, leader of the rebellion from Return of the Jedi? Holy crap.

Crikey, and is that the flipping Death Star? I mean, I knew this movie was about the Death Star, but this trailer is hitting all the right notes.

Next up is a series of quick cuts introducing the film’s characters plus a bit of running away from storm troopers – overlaid with Forest Whitaker delivering some words of warning (presumably to Felicity Jones). Then we get the money shot: the heroes running head on into a fleet of AT-ATs. God damned AT-ATs you guys.

There are no words.

Finally, we see Felicity Jones in a new get up. She’s dressed in shiny black armour reminiscent of only one man in Star Wars history. Is Jones’ character going to join Darth Vader and the empire? Is it a disguise? This is a heist movie after all.

Whatever you guys, I need to sit down and get back to a resting heart rate. What did you think? Does this get you more excited for Rogue One? Any theories about characters and storylines?
