Sonic 25th Anniversary: Sega Announce a Ton of News at SDCC

In honour of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary, Sega had a wealth of news about the fizzy, little, spiky blue mammal to share at the San Diego Comic Con.

Firstly, they released trailers for his upcoming appearances in Warner Bros. Games’ Lego Dimensions, and one showing how Classic Sonic will appear in the hugely popular mobile game Sonic Dash.

They also revealed not one but two brand new Sonic games which are both due for release next year: the retro throwback-style Sonic Mania, which is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and a currently untitled 3D platformer for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, NX, and PC.

The quality of recent Sonic games has waned significantly in recent years, with Sega developing a reputation to rush anything with their mascot’s name on it out the door as quickly as possible in order to make a quick buck. Only time will tell if they’ve learned their lesson and deliver games that are actually worth playing this time.
