The trend of blending hip-hop beat structures and electronic chimes and bleeps in pop music is getting a bit tired now (especially with every other song using the same trappy rattling snare like it’s a fucking revelation), but there’s still plenty of potential. The Linedots are proof of that almost all by themselves, and they’re definitely a duo worth keeping an eye on.
They made waves back in August with ‘Small Talk’ and now they’re back with another tune – ‘Indigo’. As it starts out, you think you’re entering an eerie, moody world, but once the beat kicks in and Evangeline Ling’s vocals pick up, it actually becomes a lot more hopeful and kinetic. It’ll be interesting to see what we get in a full release from these guys, whenever that ends up happening.
