It’s 2015, and it is January – the most miserable of all the months. As I write this, it is Sunday, and I have spent the day wallowing in a bed-shaped pool of hungover, brain dead, despair. As you read this it is Monday, you are in work/school/uni/doing an exam (delete where applicable), no doubt struggling with dem start of da week blooz. One can only imagine what I’ll be doing when you read this. I might be naked. Think about that.

Anyway, I feel shit, you feel shit, we all feel shit for ice cream. However, I have a present for you; it’s only 2015’s first SINGLE OF THE WEEK. You know this, what with having clicked on the article titled Single of the Week: Jessie Ware – You & I (Forever). You also know that 2015’s first official Single of the Week is You & I (Forever) by Jessie Ware because you’ve read it three times now.

Anyhoo, Jessie Ware and the third single from her critically acclaimed second album, Tough Love, are here to help alleviate them low down new year blues. However, watching the video for this and its heart warming display of love in its multitude of magnificent variations, thanks to a nifty photo booth, only hammered home how I do not have that. God, I’m lonely. Won’t you love me dear reader?

If you’re not familiar with Jessie Ware, which I would be surprised about, she’s a British singer-songwriter who stormed the music world with her stunning debut album Devotion back in 2012, after having done a number of rounds in the music industry beforehand. Ware blends R&B, soul, and electronica into sparse, sophisticated, and sombrely brilliant pop songs. Ware’s second album only furthered this in the latter part of last year and with You & I (Forever)’s sees to it that 2015 gets started the right way and keeps that going.

The song oozes atmosphere, building slowly but rumbling on toward that big yet delicate chorus. There’s a sleek coolness to the song but not in a distant way, because this song is all emotion, all love, and that real honest to god forever love. What better way to get rid of those blues of yours than with a gently, serene song that gets you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside? Unless, I’ve just reminded you how alone you are. In which case, I’m sorry, but don’t worry, I love you. Forever.
