When Nintendo first announced that they would be publishing a mobile game and licensing their properties to other mobile publishers, the news was met with mixed reactions. Some saw it as a great way for the company to rapidly increase their failing profits, while others were concerned that it meant that they would be abandoning their dedicated console followers.

But if the success of Pokémon Go is any indication, Nintendo will be staying in the mobile business for a long, long time. The free-to-play game, which was developed and published by Niantic, has now broken the record for the most downloaded app on the iOS App Store within a week of release. The game is now estimated to earn around $1 million to $2.3 million per day.

Nintendo don’t make as much profit off the game as Apple and Google, but it has still boosted their market value by around 56%. Now let’s just hope that they don’t screw up the Codename NX so that their financial future is secure as soon as the novelty of Pokémon Go wears off.
