Overwatch Probably Won’t Have A Valentine’s Day Event

Sorry, shippers, you may just have to keep on shipping – there will almost certainly be no Valentine’s Day event for Overwatch, despite some reports.

Owing to the speculation brought about from new voice lines being added to the game between Mercy and Genji, plenty of people thought a Valentine’s Day event was just around the corner. The pair talk about giving each other chocolates (aw) in content found in the PTR, but that’s the only hint.

It lines up with the schedule so far for seasonal events after the Olympics in August, Halloween in October, and Christmas in December, so February keeps up that track record.

However, many hype machines are forgetting that Jeff Kaplan discussed the Valentine’s Day event in early December on the game’s official forums and was pretty straightforward with their plans:

“We do have some VERY cool stuff planned for next year.

To clarify without spoiling surprises:

We are*NOT* planning a Valentines or Easter event.

So yes, you can expect cool events. But just to manage expectations Valentines and Easter are not those events.”

As much as people may want it, an Overwatch Valentine’s Day event looks rather unlikely. So before you go datamining or watching hour-long investigation videos on YouTube, remember that you are probably just wasting your time.

Overwatch is one of the best games of 2016 and looks like having an even bigger 2017. We gave it a positive review at launch, as well as calling it the best multiplayer game of the year.
