No, The Witcher 4 Has Not Been Confirmed By CD Projekt Red

The Witcher 3 geralt

Another week, another load of nonsense to shoot down for the Rumour Maul.

Over the past couple of days, the possibility of The Witcher 4 has been making the rounds, seemingly egged on by an interview CD Projekt Red had on Polish TV:

“It’s too early to talk about it, but it’s not like we’re forgetting about this brand, It wouldn’t be fair towards the fans. We work within this universe for over a dozen years now and I don’t think it’s going to be the end of it.”

Sites like The Tech Dudz, GamingBolt, Tweak Town, and GeekReply have all reported on it, with the former being the worst offenders. It’s really badly written and has no citations whatsoever.

So, here’s the thing. The interview came from 2015.

The Witcher 3

CD Projekt Red’s Adam Kicinski was referring to the game’s expansions, Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone, rather than making a new game altogether. Really, the amount of content in both of those add-ons should be more than enough to sate fans who are clamouring for The Witcher 4.

The Witcher 3 is one of the best games of this generation, if not all-time. There are no more stories left to tell, or monsters left for Geralt to slay. Put a fork in it because it is done. Only as recently as 2016, CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwinski said that nothing was in the works:

“We are a publicly traded company so we cannot comment on that but I can assure you we are not working on another Witcher.”

A sequel may happen one day, but until CD Projekt Red announce it in a press release, keep your sharing finger holstered.

Elsewhere in The Witcher universe, the card game Gwent’s being made into its own standalone title and looks to be going toe-to-toe with the likes of Hearthstone. CR Projekt Red are also still making Cyberpunk 2077, due for release in 3077.

UPDATE: it looks like the rumour originated from GamersGreed on March 10th.
