N7 Day: Here’s When Mass Effect: Andromeda Takes Place

After much speculation, Bioware has finally revealed when Mass Effect: Andromeda will take place as part of its N7 Day celebrations.

Whilst we knew already the game would be set around 600 years in the future, we didn’t know exactly how the game would handle the implications of the ending to Mass Effect 3. Now we know: Ryder leaves for the Andromeda galaxy in the year 2185.

Departing a year before the events of the Mass Effect 2 DLC Arrival and of course the third installment, the Ryder siblings (now named Scott and Sarah, voiced by Fryda Wolff and Tom Taylorson) will be unaware of just how the Reaper War ended.

With the siblings departing in 2185 (around the time Shepard and Liara are hunting down the Shadow Broker in Lair of the Shadow Broker) they will arrive at the Andromeda galaxy in 2785, which is likely where the bulk of the game will take place.

This means they will remain totally unaware of whether the Milky Way galaxy still exists, or if they do somehow find out, it will be long enough ago for the problem to have been solved.

The new information was revealed via Bioware’s Andromeda Initiative website, which has also revealed the name of Papa Ryder (Alec) who was part of Jon Grissom’s initial foray through the Charon relay in 2149.
