Subject – Inclusion Zones, wow.

Still just getting by. Work was hard yesterday, thought about pretending to throw up in the bathroom just to get out of there but I’d only end up back here though, trawling through search engines trying to find out anything about whats going on in D.C. They let me take a long lunch break though, went and picked up some more masks for the smog from the cheap vendor on Vallejo Street, cheapest masks in the city, in case you didn’t know.

Just got back from Galen’s parents new place in the new Inclusion Zone in Hunters Point. Jesus its bleak down there, I thought Galen was exaggerating in his blogs when he talked about the Washington zones. You can feel the heat coming off the India Basin Industrial Zone, its almost impossible to breathe, and you can’t even see your hands in front of you for the amount of filth in the air. I thought it was bad enough in Richmond. I really hope the Administration look after these guys, the zone’s pretty new, so I guess they should get some air purifiers down here pretty soon. Glad I brought my mask, wouldn’t have even been able to make it from the train if I hadn’t taken it.

Galen’s mother seemed to lean on me for comfort about her son. Its all been quite a lot for her, being turfed out of the farm, fears of approaching war, and now her son going missing following a terrorist attack. I guess I have a lot less to be concerned about than her, even though when she hugged me I didn’t know what solace she could find in my arms considering how down I’m feeling. Dee’s a strong woman usually, but I guess times have been especially tough on her lately.

I’ve never seen Galen’s father so ill. Both of them looked pretty worse for wear, but he looked so frail and slim, he’d lost that vitality he had back on the farm. He was coughing more than I was, the redness around his eyes grew every time he stooped and hacked his guts out.

Dee told me while we were out smoking that she was worried about him, she’s never seen him like this before and it scares her. I think she usually leans on him for strength, as much as they fight and bicker, but since he’s left the farm he’s not the same as he was. I asked what could be making him so ill and she said she didn’t know, he’s just wasting away, something’s missing behind his eyes. I said I’d try and get him some medicine, at least something to ease his cough. I’ve got to make sure they’re okay until I hear from Galen again.

Dee told me they found an Unregistered in the Inclusion zone yesterday. She’d snuck in on one of the trucks and hidden with one of the families in their hut. Word got out to C.P and they took her out into the main square and beat her against the concrete while everyone looked on. She was purple when they hauled her into the back of an APC and took her away. C.P told everyone to keep calm, that the Unregistered was there to harm them, and they wouldn’t let that happen. Dee said you could hear the poor girl screaming as the APC pulled out of the front gate, she said she was scared the same could happen to her and Saul. I told her not to worry, they haven’t done anything wrong, I promised them nothing would happen to them.

I’m going to have to make a habit of going up to Hunters Point. I have to look after Dee and Saul while Galen is away. I owe him that much. For purely selfish reasons, I think being there for them is giving me some of my strength back, it’s giving me a purpose to go on and not sit in front of the internet most nights looking for Galen. I’m still being sick though, I’m going to have to go see a doctor about that. Something isn’t right.
