Godzilla Resurgence Trailer Brings Back the Old School

Godzilla Resurgence

Godzilla has returned home in the trailer for the giant lizard’s next outing, Godzilla Resurgence.

Unrelated to the 2014 remake by Legendary Entertainment (which is the first of an intended trilogy, forming the backbone of a Giant Monsters universe), this is is a Japanese version from Toho (who have made 29 of the 31 Godzilla films).

Following the success of the American version (directed by Gareth Edwards), the company decided the time was right for them to exercise their rights and create a “domestic version”, as allowed in the licensing agreement.

Co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, this will be their first Godzilla film since 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars, and will act as a reboot.

As there is no dialogue in the trailer, there are only hints of what happens. All we know for sure is that it involves Godzilla, a major Japanese city, some people, and a whole bunch of guns. But isn’t that enough?

Whilst they clearly cannot match the $200 million budget of the American version, they have still gone for an epic angle, and indeed, seem far more eager to show the titular character in all its glory, rather than the hints we had last time around.

With a release date of 29th July 2016, fans will not have to wait very long to see if the Japanese can still do Godzilla better than anyone else.
